Target Audience

This course is aimed at practitioners who work within the Children and Adults workforce as part of universal service or provide an early help service. As well as those who work within specialist services which sit under statutory intervention who wish to gain an insight into the Child protection, core group and conferencing process.

The aim of this course is to offer practitioners the opportunity to participate in a ‘mock conference’ to be able to gain a better understanding of the process and the importance of multi-agency working together.


By the end of the session the course participants will have been informed how:

  • To consider levels of vulnerability
  • To participate in a child protection conference by interpreting information and determining a conclusion
  • To devise SMART CP plans
  • To differentiate the role and responsibilities of agencies involved in the child protection process
  • To identify the remit and tasks of core groups
  • Important collaborative work and shared responsibility is
  • To relate to the needs of the child in core group work
  • To recognise when it is appropriate to refer to the LADO
  • To understand the process which is undertaken when an allegation is made and possible outcomes.
  • To identify what is safe and unsafe practice when working with children and young people
