Aims

The aim of this 2-day course is to provide an understanding of the task and dynamics of communicating with children and young people who have experienced trauma, abuse and loss. To also consider barriers to communication and how these maybe overcome in a practical way.

Objectives

By the end of the session the course participants will have been informed how:

  • To explore how workers’ feelings, values and personal issues impact upon communication and direct work.
  • To offer a range of practical ideas for communication in a safe and child centred way
  • To improve planning, report writing and recording of direct work.
  • To consider communication and direct work in the context of a child or young person’s developmental needs, language, gender, ethnicity, disability or experience of trauma.
