This course is aimed at practitioners who work within the children’s workforce as part of universal service or provide an early help service. As well as those who work within specialist services which sit under statutory intervention who wish to gain an understanding of the role of the ‘Local Authority Designated Officer' (LADO) and how this fits within the key working practices needed to work with children and families within Blackpool.

The aim of this course is to introduce participants to what the role of the ‘Local Authority Designated Officer' (LADO) is and to understand the roles and responsibilities of key persons involved in the process.


  • Recognise when it is appropriate to refer to the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO)
  • Understand the process which is undertaken when an allegation is made and possible outcomes
  • Identify what is safe and unsafe practice when working with children and young people
  • Understand how a practitioners behaviour within their personal life may have an impact on their ability to work with Children and Families
  • Professionals to have a clear understanding of local procedures for managing allegations against adults who work with or on behalf of children and young people
