Target audience

This course is aimed at practitioners who work within the children’s workforce as part of universal service or provide an early help service. As well as those who work within specialist services which sit under statutory intervention who wish to gain an understanding of what is 'childhood neglect'.

Aim

To provide staff with an understanding of Blackpool’s newly launched Multi-agency Neglect Strategy and to ensure confidence when identifying neglect. The day will link Blackpool’s new practice standards, screening tools, social pedagogy model and the neglect strategy.

Objectives

  • Demonstrate an understanding of Blackpool’s Multi-Agency Neglect Strategy
  • Link Blackpool’s new practice standards, screening tools, social pedagogy model and the neglect strategy
  • Explore key neglect messages from research and serious case reviews
  • Identify and utilise tools for assessment and intervention
  • Refine analytical skills, intuition and observation skills to enter the child’s world
  • Identify and assess parent’s capacity to change and sustain
  • Use professional curiosity and defensible decision making to work more confidently with families and neglect
  • Utilise tools to identify the impact of neglect on adolescents

A range of exercises, case studies, video’s will be used during the day and delegates will be asked to think about recent neglect case / s so that these can be used in the afternoon in action learning sets.
